After a warm welcome, you will sign in, and if you have your paperwork with you, please present it along with your ID and insurance card. Also helpful is to bring X-ray or MRI reports/CDs, if you have them. Those reports and paperwork provides us with your health history and information about your condition. To complete the forms, go to New Patient and click on New Patient Packet.
Next, you will have a consultation with Lowe to discuss health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals.
After your consultation, Lowe will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes and flexibility. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed as needed.
Depending on your specific condition, X-rays may be taken to help develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of serious spinal conditions. Lowe will closely consult with you on his findings.: If you have recent X-rays (not older than 9 months) or have an MRI study, please bring them the report(s) with you.
Report of Findings
Once the information is collected and examinations are performed, Lowe will discuss a report of findings and answer any questions regarding your treatment plan. In addition, he will discuss recommendations and coordination of outside resources, if needed.
At the conclusion of your initial appointment, you can choose to experience your first treatment. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapy, and/or soft tissue massage. Treatment is interactive, feel free to ask about the different styles of treatment and their impact.
Near the end of your visit, Dr. Lowe will suggest a wellness regimen to incorporate outside of treatment. This may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, or at home exercises and/or stretches.
Thumbs Up to Relief
Many people go to a chiropractor because they are in pain. In this first phase of care, the main goal is to reduce your symptoms. Sometimes this will require two to three visits per week for a time.
Most people assume if they do not feel any pain, then nothing is wrong and they are healthy. Unfortunately, pain is a very poor indicator of health. In fact, pain and other symptoms frequently only appear after a disease or other condition has become advanced.
Consider a cavity in your tooth; it begins to hurt after it becomes serious. Whether you are talking about cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stress, or problems with the spine, pain is usually the last thing to appear. When you begin chiropractic care, pain is also the first symptom to disappear, even though much of the underlying condition remains.
Teaming Up for Optimal Health
Eliminating pain symptoms is the easiest part of a patient’s care. However, if only the symptoms are treated, chances are greater the condition will recur or become worse. To prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, continual care is necessary even though symptoms are gone.
During the correction / restorative phase of your care, you may not need adjustments as often as you did during the first phase of care. Additionally, depending on your particular circumstances, you may begin doing exercises and stretches either at the center or at home to accelerate healing.
Do not be discouraged if you have occasional, mild flare-ups in your symptoms; this is normal. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not fully healed. Depending on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it, this phase of your care may last from a few months to a couple of years.
Maintenance is Key to Healthy Living
Once your body has fully healed, routine chiropractic care can help ensure physical problems do not return, and keep your body in optimal condition. Just like continuing an exercise program and eating well in order to sustain the benefits of exercise and proper diet, continual chiropractic care is necessary to ensure the health of your musculoskeletal system.
When you make routine chiropractic care a part of your lifestyle, you can avoid many aches and pains, help your joints last longer, improve your overall health and wellness, and actively engage in more of the activities you love.
For all of our new patients, there are some forms you will need to download and fill out prior to your visit.
